Fernwood Petanque Club successfully took part in the Mercia Sherwood Shield Finals Competition held at Arena Petanque Club, Worksop on Sunday 29th January.

The event saw Fernwood Petanque Club win their first team trophy in a Mercia competition comprising teams from Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire & Lincolnshire.

The Fernwood team were Denise Proctor, Sally Elson, Linda Edwards, Colin Baker, John Proctor, Keith Roberts, Madhu Mistry, Gillian Evans & Alison Baker.  In the Preliminary Round they defeated Burton Joyce Petanque Club 3 matches – 0,  winning a triple match 13-1 and 2 doubles 13-3 & 12-8 to qualify for the plate final.

A strong team from Nottingham City Petanque Club were their opponents in the final contesting for the Sherwood Shield Plate Trophy.  After a hard fought battle Fernwood Petanque Club won the Plate Trophy with a 2 matches – 1 victory.  They won the triples match 12-6 and a doubles 13-8.

A presentation of the Sherwood Shield Plate was made at the Mercia AGM held at the Arena Sports Centre, Worksop following the matches.  This shows a significant improvement in the standard of the club.
